The other day I was flipping through a local newsletter and I came across this passage. It’s really an homage to the human experience— a REMINDER of something that seems really basic and obvious, but is neglected ALL THE TIME.
*Be present. It’s not enough to just slow down – you need to actually be mindful of whatever you’re doing at the moment.
*Disconnect. Don’t always be connected. If you carry around an iPhone or Blackberry or other mobile device, shut it off.
*Focus on people.
*Find pleasure in anything.
*Single-task. The opposite of multi-tasking. Focus on one thing at a time. When you feel the urge to switch to other tasks, pause, breathe, and pull yourself back.
When you are busy busy busy all the time, like so many of you are, it is easy to forget to get your nose OUT of your files, books, and computer and go LIVE a little! Look at the world around you every day. Have a distraction-free conversation with your family every day. I can tell you one thing— it’ll keep you from burning out a young age AND will help you to maintain a fresh perspective!
People who let their minds relax when they AREN’T at the office are PROVEN to have higher productivity levels when they return to work… Keep that in mind.
