The first time I went hunting, I had zero experience. Never been; didn’t know anything about it. I literally just bought a gun and headed out to the deer stand. (How difficult could it be, right?) So, I get up in the stand, and immediately, there’s a deer… He couldn’t have been more than 20 feet away. I felt like I’d hit the jackpot! I peer into the scope, steady myself, and pull the trigger.

And I missed… By a long shot.

I was so aggravated. Once my friends got there, I started telling them my embarrassing story and laughing at myself… And then one of them asked: “Did you sight in the scope?”

You should’ve seen the look on my face… “Huh?!?” I had no CLUE that it didn’t come perfectly adjusted and ready to use. Then I realized what had happened… What had started as a tiny mistake in the scope had actually translated to several feet by the point of impact! That seemingly tiny difference was actually a HUGE difference–and at the end of the day, it caused me to completely miss my target.

Today I’d like to talk to you about the minor adjustments you need to make in your financial processes at your practice. Because (as we all know) hitting the bullseye is fun! Plain and simple. But missing is irritating, discouraging, and–after awhile– exhausting.

Think of it this way… It’s time to sight in your scope. Because maybe you don’t realize it, but right now, it’s a tiny bit off. Unfortunately, that tiny glitch is being multiplied and let me just tell you… It’s hitting your practice HARD.

One word: Fees. Right now you are paying some exorbitant fees and– chances are– you don’t even realize it. Some of them, of course, are obvious. But others are automatically deducted! Specifically, I’m talking about credit cards processing fees. Do you know how much you are paying in fees to accept credit cards at your business? Can you give me an amount– even an estimate?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you probably can’t.

In fact, I have never met someone that could. Why? Because they are auto-deducted. Yep– sneaky… Expensive… And incredibly easy to overlook. So, why am I telling you about this? It’s a “fact of life” right? The high cost of ease and convenience?


These fees are often higher– much higher– than they should be, and you need to do something about it. Honestly, you are being ROBBED of that money. And I could go into a whole lot of detail on the who, what, when, where, and why of exactly how these cards and these fees work (and I will in next month’s Practice Building Guide!) but for now, suffice it to say…Visa, Mastercard, etc– they don’t want you to know that you are overpaying on processing fees. They make these statements so intentionally difficult and confusing that it is intimidating to even read them- much less try to make sense of it all!

This isn’t a conspiracy theory people– this is the truth. And do you want to know how I know?

I work closely with a company that will personally take your statements and review exactly what fees and interest you are being charged for credit card processing. They will create an individual analysis of how you are being OVER-CHARGED. Credit card payments are so easy and convenient that we don’t bother to worry about the associated fees! But it’s not the amount per month you are paying in these fees… It’s what you could do with this amount when it’s multiplied. It’s how you could leverage this money to grow your practice and increase your collections! Train your team! This money is disappearing month after month after month… And you aren’t able to repurpose it for the good of your practice!

Remember what I said about sighting in your scope? These small amounts of money might seem negligible… After all, what’s $1,000 a month? Well, when I made a shot and my scope was off–that one mistake became multiplied over a distance. What started as a very small mistake became a HUGE one– and it caused me to miss my target. As these unnecessary fees accumulate over time, they will become more and more detrimental to your practice’s growth potential. To your personal career potential. They could cause you to miss your target.
